And One Day, You Returned

Wrapped in a halo of mystery,

Surrounded by an impossible hope.

Resigned to my fate,

Accustomed to silence,

Empty of hope,

I thought you were but a dream...

And there you were,

Standing before me,

I heard your voice,

I held your gaze.

You,

Two centuries apart,

And yet, it felt like only yesterday

That I last heard the sometimes-childlike cadence of your words.

You,

Standing before me,

Returned with the sea,

Returned with the rain,

Returned, my love,

Turning autumn into spring.
